俄羅斯科學院主天文臺的科學家阿布杜薩馬托夫認為，6年之後全球不是變暖而是進入一個較長時期的低溫期。 他說：『1645至1705年的60年間，太陽輻射活動進入最弱時期，當時全球低溫現象在整個歐洲、北美洲和格陵蘭島出現，這樣的現象在19世紀中期又重新出現。』阿布杜薩馬托夫指出，太陽光照度長期並行存在著11年周期和世紀周期波動規律，這個規律影響到全球的氣候變化。如今，太陽光照度最強周期已經接近尾聲，然後就是太陽光照輻射的並行減弱周期，因此全球氣溫將逐漸降低。他的結論是，自2012年起，開始出現全球降溫；2035至2045年期間，地球將迎來15至20年的低溫期。
